If not, you may be surprised to learn that the average time a doctor (Primary Care Provider) spends with a patient tops out at about 20 minutes. Some of you may not even get to talk to the doctor. It may be a nurse practitioner. Not that, that is a bad thing but it's still only about 20 minutes. In and out unless you need a test need to leave some blood behind if that is available at your PCP's office. That isn't much time at all is it? Certainly not enough to talk about how you really feel, ask some questions or get some guidance. 

Traditional healthcare professionals excel when it comes to acute care but don't always have the time or resources to assist in helping to build healthy habits. This is where the Health Coach comes in. Health Coaches work with clients to make changes from unhealthy habits to sustainable healthy habits toward long lasting health and wellness. A Health Coach is defined as "a guide and supportive mentor who empowers clients to take ownership of their own health and achieve wellbeing.

A Health Coach partners with a client to create a personal program for wellness that is designed to meet an individuals personal needs. They can educate and support clients to reach their goals through lifestyle and behavioral changes through regular meetings. Health Coaches don't provide any medical diagnosis, prescribe medications. Instead they guide clients in how to take responsibility for bringing about wellness changes in their own life. Additionally, they assist clients in staying accountable for recommendations that their doctors and health professionals provide.
