Anyone who has been to a grocery store and walked the aisle where they keep the tea and coffee is, probably amazed (unless it's just me that is easily amazed 🤣) at the number of brands there are as well as at the number of varieties, types, flavors and blends available. Once you find out that all tea that is a "true tea", is derived from a single plant (Camellia sinensis) it makes things even more interesting. At least to me anyway 🙂 Thus, there are two main types of tea: "True Tea" and "Herbal Tea". The differences between the multitude of types really boil down to two things. How it is grown and how it is processed. The "True Teas" as mentioned are derived from the tea plant (Camellia sinensis). "Herbal Teas" on the other hand contain no leaves at all from the tea plant. They are made from herbs, spices, sometimes fruit and flowers amongst other things and are usually completely caffiene free. Examples of "True Teas" are oolong, green, black and white tea. "Herbal Blends" that include leaves from the tea plant of whatever variety are often referred to as Infusions.
Tea, like many other things in the world of wellness has a very long history and was first noticed natively in China which eventually made its way to Japan. Additionally, back in the 1830's the first Assam estates were established as well. China and India are two of the primary exporters of tea today.
